where your money goes

We rely on fundraising and donations to operate our services.

Every Order of Malta Unit is self sufficient and manages there finances locally.

Whats raised locally stays local.

We are delighted to announce we received delivery of a 2011 Ford transit front line Ambulance from the HSE
We aim to have the Ambulance on the road within 12 weeks but we need your help - We require €5,000 approx to purchase medical equipment

If you or your organisation would be kindly willing to donate or organise a fundraiser for the medical equipment it would be greatly appreciated - for more info call (087) 707 4514

Once the equipment is purchased - We will have 2 fully operational Ambulances to provide services in our Community

history

Castlebar Order of Malta was founded in 1943, that’s 75 years ago.

The First Officer in Charge was Capt. Eddie Lynn
They held there meeting in the gate lodge of the military barracks in Castlebar.
The next Officer in Charge was Tom Robinson. Tom was a member of the Ballina Unit and when work brought him to Castlebar he became a member of the Castlebar Unit.

In January 1975, Dr. Malachy Powell the Director of the Ambulance Corps, asked John Cunningham, a former member of the Tuam Unit to be Officer in Charge of the Castlebar Unit.
At that time there was no Headquarters and meetings were held in the social services building in Castlebar.
That year the Castlebar Unit went to win the first Connaught and All-Ireland Competitions.

A purpose built Unit Headquarters was built in 1988 on Pavilion Road.
But due to unforseen circumstances we had to vacate that premises in 2013.
