East Cork Community First Responders

East Cork CFR was first set up in 2016 here in Carrigtwohill, Co. Cork.

We are a volunteer group responding to emergencies 24/7 in our community having been dispatched by the National ambulance service on receipt of 112/999 calls to preserve life until the ambulance reaches the patient.

We fully rely on donations to fund and support the work we do.

Ordinary people doing extra ordinary things!

overview

Many people often ask us "What is a CFR?"

Community First Responders (CFR) are volunteers who are trained to attend certain types of emergency calls in the area where they live or work. Their aim is to reach a potential life threatening emergency in the first vital minutes before the ambulance crew arrives.

Their role is to help stabilise the patient and provide the appropriate care including CPR & defibrillation, until the more highly skilled ambulance crew arrives on scene to take over the treatment.

CFR groups who are linked to the National Ambulance Service-NAS National Emergency Operations Centre are alerted to an emergency in their area and as they are community based, can provide medical assistance within minutes of a 112/999 call being received.

where your money goes

Our group is made up from volunteers from across the local area, we are on call 24/7 to respond to the dispatch messages we receive from the National ambulance service.

While we donate our time to run the group and respond we fully rely on donations to purchase our equipment such as defibrillators and related accessories such as batteries and pads. We have over heads such as our group phone and admin costs.

Our main goal for fundraising is to build up the number of defibrillators available in the community with trained first responders available meaning that every corner of our community has a responder nearby.

Your donation will help us help be ready to help our community in an emergency.

Did you know, we are always recruiting volunteers, both responders and support roles, maybe you have a skill you could offer or maybe you would like to learn more about CPR?

No previous experience required, and all training is provided.
