Cystic Fibrosis Galway Hospital Project

Cause Description

Cystic Fibrosis Galway is a regional branch of Cystic Fibrosis Ireland. However, it is also an independently registered charity with externally audited accounts that are communicated at our AGMs. We are a dedicated group of volunteers, no-one receives a wage, and administration & organisation of the charity is carried out from our own homes. Expenses are kept to an absolute minimum (and often items required are generously sponsored or supplied at reduced rates).

In 2009, 300,000 euro of monies raised for Cystic Fibrosis Galway Hospital Project were utilised in building three single en-suite isolation rooms in St. Anthonys adults ward, Galway University Hospital, Galway.

A further 250,000 from CF Galway helped support the paediatric outpatients unit in Galway University Hospital; which opened in 2014. It is an urgently required new build which consists of 4 examination/clinical rooms; a treatment room; 2 offices for medical and nursing staff & a gym.

Appointments can be frequent for individuals with Cystic Fibrosis and hospital stays can run into several weeks. These building projects make a huge difference to the quality of care for 76 adults and children with Cystic Fibrosis attending Galway University Hospital.

Cystic Fibrosis Galway supports GUH by funding medical & nursing staff, and provision of vital equipment within the Hospital.

The project also carries out other work including assisting individuals and families experiencing temporary hardship as a result of CF on a case-by case basis in a sympathetic and confidential manner.

We publicly acknowledge the monies kindly raised from events, through social media and by submitting photos/articles to the local newspapers, as well as sending out a thank-you letters to event organisers showing both appreciation and transparency.

We continue to strive to improve facilities for PWCF attending Galway University Hospital & thank you for your support, it really makes a huge difference!
