Dublin Lesbian Line is an confidential support helpline for those in crisis or in need of advice and/or support, operated entirely by a dedicated team of volunteers. Our aim is to provide impartial support to family members, friends, individuals and the wider LGBT community during times of need.
overview
As you may have already guessed, we are a confidential support helpline, operated by a group of enthusiastic female (LGBQ) volunteers, dedicated to providing rather excellent telephone support to the LGBTQ community. Don't be fooled by our name however, as we offer support to people all over Ireland with many problems, issues and concerns. In fact, many of our callers are not even female! ??If you are parent, grandparent, husband, wife, daughter, son, aunt, uncle, brother, sister (you get where we're going) and you are concerned about somebody you love or alas, if you are somebody who is struggling with every day concerns, feel free to give us a call - we're rather nice! :)
where your money goes
All the money we receive through donations go directly to maintaining the service we provide. This means:
A little money goes a long way.
Everyone works for free (except the stick people).
We are careful and considerate with how we spend your money.
We don't take the money you donate for granted.
Every measure is taken to keep costs at a minimum.
We won't spend your money on silly things, such as sweets, cakes, fancy pens or hot chocolates!
history
We started in 1979 and have been supporting the LGBT community ever since!
In 2006 we joined the National LGBT Helpline (we also helped to establish it!)
Our service is operated exclusively by highly trained volunteers
Our volunteers are all females who identify as lesbian, bi-sexual or queer (LBQ)
We offer support to those who need it - not just the fairer sex.
Currently we operate from Monday and Thursday from 18:30 - 21:00
Our goal is to provide a supportive, confidential helpline to those in need
Our ethos is to provide a high quality service and to grow our helpline with integrity.
