The Funds for Fionn trust is set up to help raise funds for Fionn O'Longaigh who has Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. Fionn is the son of Roma & Padraig O'Longaigh, and brother of Donnacha, Ailbhe and Caoimhe.
Fionn was diagnosed with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy in 2015. This is an aggressive muscle wasting disease, and since his diagnosis, Fionn has become wheelchair dependent. The prognosis is grim - Fionns muscles will continue to deteriorate & when he is confined full-time to an electronic wheelchair, he will require 24 hour care. Fionn is a bright and intelligent fourth class student. He is an avid sports fan and Barcelona is his favourite football team. He loves to wear sports jerseys & he has built up quite a collection. Fionn also likes to play Playstation, enjoys art and board games.
The Faltais Fhionn Trust was established on 2nd October 2016. This is an independent Trust established for charitable purposes and has been recognised as such by the Irish Revenue Authorities under tax reference number 3433681WH.
The O'Longaigh's home urgently requires significant modification in order to make it wheelchair accessible. The work required includes converting a room downstairs into a bedroom suitable for his disability, installation of a full sized wet-room to take him to adulthood, knocking down internal walls, widening of doorways & installation of ramps. The bedroom & wet-room also need re-enforced ceilings to accommodate a hoist & tracking system will be required in the future
