history

Co-founders Cyril Hyland and Elaine Ryan set up the first Let’s Get Talking center in Galway 2013.

When studying to become therapists, Cyril and Elaine noticed that there was a lot of pressure put on the public system to access mental health support with long waiting times, but also that private provision simply was unaffordable to many.

From this Let’s Get Talking was born, our aim is to reduce the barriers to accessing counselling and psychotherapy by providing a on a non-set fee service ensuring no one is excluded from accessing mental health support due to their financial circumstances.

Our approach positions the organisation to straddle the public provision and private enterprise in a way that makes service delivery more affordable to the public and less of a strain on scarce public resources. This is achieved by complementing rather than competing with existing services, by adding value and filling existing gaps within the sector.

To date, Let’s Get Talking have supported over 5,000 people since 2013 and in 2020 provided 14,504 sessions to children, Adolescents, Adults and couples in Ireland.

Along with now providing online therapy nationwide, further locations have opened around the country including Dublin, Clare, Limerick, Kerry helping to support those of us that need access to mental health support while reducing barriers to access in our communities.

With a team of over 100 counsellors and psychotherapists now available nationwide for online, and face to face counselling, our clients contact us in relation to a wide range of issue that can range from seeking help for depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, addiction, trauma, bullying, eating disorders, parenting issues, or family breakdown.

You can contact our service without a referral and there is no limit to the number of session provide to you.

We envision a society, where psychological support through talk therapy is an accessible and viable option for all citizens no matter their financial circumstances.

Our centres have supported local communities through therapy, workshops and programmes and is growing to other counties.
