Hope for the Homeless

We are a charity working in Cork City supporting persons affected by homelessness and dealing with all sorts of life issues. It is our mission to provide support no matter how a person finds themselves in their current situation, without judging.

overview

We are currently reaching out to those in need by providing:

  • At Hope Street Outreach (every other Friday night outside Brown Thomas): our team can help 40 to 60 people on our street outreach. We feed, give clothes, create safety, share hope and love, pray with some, and bed down with blankets and sleeping bags. We have a pop up café and send out small teams to reach out to wherever we find homeless.

  • At Hope Café (every Saturday in The Haven, Bachelors Quay) a hot meal, clothing, sleeping bags,  shelter, a kind listening ear and understanding in a safe environment. We presently reach out to at least 60 to 70 people each Saturday.

  • At Hope Recovery, (every Tuesday in The Haven, Bachelors Quay) a program for anyone trying to overcome life’s hurt, hang ups and habits through hope whereby people can live fulfilled, purposeful and content lives

  • A Service for clients whom we deal with on a weekly basis for among other things:- consultations/assessments to help them get into rehabilitation facilities, assistance with housing applications, dealings with social welfare, help with setting up in new homes/shared accommodation, giving personal references, and at times visit those whom we have met in prison or accompanying someone to court. Also, financial assistance for emergency accommodation where possible

where your money goes

Hope for the Homeless is a registered charity (RCN 20051082) (CHY15082) and therefore Hope for the Homeless is a non-profit organisation, all our staff are volunteers and are not in receipt of payment for the position they hold.

Presently, we need funds for emergency accommodation to keep some homeless people out of the streets during the cold nights.

We constantly need funds so we can continue to help the homeless by:
- providing our street outreach where we hand out food, water, toiletries, hygienic kits, sleeping bags and survival kits clothing
- to keep our "Hope Café" afloat every Saturday at the Haven Café: we rent the premises and we provide a 3-course meal, take away sandwiches, clothing, toiletries, sleeping bags, tents
- to keep offering our Hope Recovery program at the Haven Café which we rent every Tuesday

history

Hope for the Homeless was founded by Gillian Horgan who desired to reach out to others, especially those on the streets, with the hope she found…
Hope for the Homeless is part of benevolent ministry of Good News Christian Church
The work of Hope for the Homeless started on the 19th of September with a sleep out on the streets with the homeless.
Ever since, we have been out every second Friday night for the street outreach sharing hope and love to anybody who needs it.
In November 2016, we were able to open our Hope Café which has been providing a 3-course meal every Saturday afternoon ever since.
In March 2017, the Hope 12 Steps Recovery Program started, helping dozens to recover from life's hurts and hang ups.

Our Vision is to take people into hope whereby they live fulfilled, purposeful and content lives.
Our Values are to embracing the homeless relationally with love, acceptance and forgiveness.
