Young Parkinson Ireland

YPI is a Nationwide branch of the Parkinson's Association of Ireland CHY No 10816, aiming to provide an additional layer of peer support for younger PD people.

Our vision is that the quality of life for people with YOP & their families will be enhanced & that they will be presented with opportunities to link into a wider range of relevant services & supports.

The Young Parkinson’s Ireland (YPI) branch was formed in February 2017 and is the only 26 county based branch of The Parkinson’s Association of Ireland (PAI).  Our committee meets on a monthly basis and details of the make up of the 2017/2018 committee are given in appendix no.1. YPI operates under the registered charity no. 10816.

We currently have approx. 120 members.  One of our goals is to double this number over the next 3 years.  It is estimated that there are approx. 500 people diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s in Ireland.

Our key focus is supporting people in Ireland who are living with Young Onset Parkinson’s (YOP).

We have consolidated our implementation strategy into 5 “pillars” that we will build on in order to achieve our overall goal of a better quality of life (We use the acronym “RAISE” to describe all 5):

  • Reach out - Build better awareness amongst the Irish people of Young Onset Parkinson’s

through promotions and the media;

  • Advocacy - Influencing the regulatory and health systems’ policies;

  • Information - Gathering all relevant material and dissemination to those who need it;

  • Support -   Generation and continuity of an active support structure;

Events -   In order to achieve the other 4 goals we will need to organise relevant events.
