Grantstown Community Village

We are a non-profit organisation that provides day care services to senior citizens and clients with intellectual, mental or physical disabilities. We offer companionship, medical assistance, physical activities and education and continued learning. In addition to our on-site services we also offer community outreach through our meals on wheels service. We encourage and promote community spirit where all participants can feel a sense of belonging, inclusiveness, unity and value. Grantstown Community Village is a charity that helps people by providing an array of services in our Day Care Centre, sheltered housing and a community service to help those who need it most.  Our doors are open to anyone who needs support.

overview

At Grantstown we work to combat isolation within our community, particularly for senior citizens and people with limited mobility or mental/physical disabilities by giving them a sense of community and belonging, and providing activities to stimulate and engage them.  Our services include providing hot meals (on site & meals on wheels), companionship, activities (e.g. social evenings, yoga, horticulture) medical assistance (e.g.physiotherapy, chiropody, nurse) and support. Our objective is to keep people in their own homes for as long as is possible without isolation and to help them have an enjoyable, happy, healthy retirement.

where your money goes

All money raised will go back into our services to help those most in need of support. People like Brian....Brian came to Grantstown a few years ago. He lived locally and had been on his own since his wife sadly passed away. Brian says that he is very well looked after.... "I get my exercise every day on the bike, I have company with friends in the Daycare Centre and I no longer feel isolated. I feel so safe here in Grantstown. The staff really look after me and the dinner are lovely. I just feel so protected."
John came to live in Grantstown a few years ago. He was a client in the Daycare Centre and enjoyed coming during the week. When a house became vacant John moved in a became a resident. "I love the flowers in Grantstown, the colours change during the year with the seasons and I love seeing this. It is busy during the week because of the Daycare Centre and it's lovely and peaceful during the weekends. I have good carers and I am well looked after. My house is warm and cosy and I couldn't ask for any more."

Anne has lived in Grantstown for 20 years. Anne says that she considers everyone in Grantstown her family and the staff and management couldn't do enough for her. I have a comfortable house, the daycare centre has a physio, nurse and hairdressers which is fantastic. I feel safe and I wouldn't change a thing about the place".

Help us to help people like Brian, John & Anne. Maybe someday we could help you or a loved one, but for now we do need support. Please, if you can, make a donation to us to help people, or sign up for a monthly donation to help us to help the isolated in our community.

history

The Augustinian Friars arrived at Grantstown in 1730 and remained here until falling numbers of vocations in Ireland led them to offer the land and buildings to the community.  The local community decided that the most pressing need was for services to help senior citizens and people with intellectual, mental and physical disabilities.

FÁS became involved and sourced funds to repair the buildings so they could be used for the community as a Day Care Centre.  The Augustinians then gave some land to enable the Sheltered Housing to be built. In 2011 we built an extension with Treatment Rooms and recently we finished building a new Art Room with funding from Wexford Arts Department.

At present we have 24 housing units and we have applied for planning permission for a further 16 units. Work will hopefully get underway in 2024 on the newest units.
