On September 8th this year, A group of emergency services personnel and supporters will set off on a cycle as a tribute to the crew of Rescue 116 and Caitriona Lucas, All of whom were lost on active duty in the last 12 months. The core group of cyclists will complete the task of cycling approximately 800kms from Waterford Airport via Dublin, Sligo and Shannon before retuning to Waterford on the 11th of September. We hope to be joined by lots of supporters and fellow cyclists along the way,
Each of the 4 days will be in honour of the fallen crew, with the day from Waterford to Dublin being "A day for Dara" and the longest day of the cycle being set aside for Ciaran Smith, an avid cyclist himself.
The core group of organisers are all employed by the Emergency services and work with the Irish Coastguard Helicopter Crew and irish Coastguard Land and water Crews on a regular basis
All monies raised will be divided equally between the five charities listed here :
Dunmore East First Responder Group
Aoibheanns Pink Tie
Pieta House - South East
Dogs for the Disabled
Cycle Against Suicide
With the cycle now sucessfully finished we are leaving the fundraising page open for a few weeks to see if we can get a few extra € for our chosen charities.

Pieta House staff are fully qualified and provide a professional one-to-one therapeutic service for people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm. Dogs for the Disabled is a National Charity established in 2007 and the only one of its kind in Ireland. Enhancing the quality of lives for children and adults, who have varying degrees of physical disabilities. Our mission is to provide fully trained Assistance Dogs to assist in everyday activities and in doing so improving their quality of life. Our Assistance Dogs are provided free of charge and our charity receives no government funding.
We are a group of volunteers who provide assistance to patients in the community who have suffered a Cardiac Arrest, Heart Attack, Chest Pain, Stroke or choking while for an Ambulance to arrive.
In August 2017, we plan to have a crew of 25 people from all over Ireland take part in the Race Around Ireland to raise vital funds for our charity "Cycle against Suicide" and spread awareness of our message that “it’s ok not to feel ok and it’s absolutely ok to ask for help”. The cycle is covering 2,200 Km of Ireland landscape and it is starting and ending in Trim. It is hoped that the cyclists and crew will cover this distance non-stop in about 80 hours.
