Direct Provision Donations Galway

We are a NPO made up by several members dedicated to organising and collecting donations for Direct Provision Centres in Galway. We have organised several collections in the space of one year for the 5 DP centres in Galway, and have raised over €2300 for Galway's asylum seekers in a previous fundraiser. All updates on our collections and fundraisers can be found on our instagram, @dpdonationsgalway

where your money goes

100% of our money donated will be going to buying vouchers for the residents in DP centres in Galway, as the centres are not acepting donations at the minute. These vouchers wil cover the cost of items not provided to residents by the centres, such as cleaning products, toiletries, clothes, food & confectionary, books & stationary

history

Direct provision is a system of asylum seeker accommodation used in the Republic of Ireland. The system has been criticised by human rights organisations as illegal, inhuman and degrading.

Direct provision was originally introduced as an emergency measure in 1999. In 2002 there were almost 12,000 applications for asylum

However, there were approximately 7,400 adults and children living in direct provision in Ireland by the end of April 2020
