TWOMILEHOUSE COMMUNITY CENTRE CLG

overview

The Two Mile House Community Centre CLG was set up to plan, develop and eventually run a community centre in the village of Two Mile House.

The aim is to provide a focal point for the community within the heart of the village which has been so sorely missed for so long. Once finished it will help serve the social, sporting and cultural needs for all people in the parish.

The proposed centre/school gym will consist of a mixed-use hall, a connecting glass atrium to the school, meeting rooms, kitchen, storage area and ancillary rooms. It is envisaged that the hall would accommodate 300 people seated and would accommodate a regulation size basketball court. An outline plan is included here.

The provision of a community centre in the growing village of Two Mile House will significantly enhance the quality of life and contribute to the social, educational and environmental well-being of the Two Mile House parish and community. The community centre would provide the opportunity for a wide range of learning,social and physical activities including;

  • indoor basketball, volleyball, badminton netball, table tennis, organised fitness classes
  • arts and crafts, bridge, book clubs
  • meeting rooms for clubs and organisations in the parish e.g. ICA, mother and baby groups, sport clubs etc
  • a place for the youth of the parish to meet e.g. youth club, discos, etc.
  • coffee mornings, card games.

In addition the proposed hall will significantly enhance the facilities available to children and staff in the National School and provide a facility for events such as;

  • school assemblies that the whole school could attend
  • holding school plays instead of having to go outside the community to stage them.
  • an indoor facility for P.E.
  • a facility for break time/bad weather activities
  • an indoor area capable of holding inter school activities e.g. basketball, chess, debating
  • the hosting of school related events e.g. post communion/confirmation refreshments and grandparents’ days.

With planning permission granted, a committee has been formed to progress this proposed development through to completion.
We are hoping to receive grant aid from a number of sources but building our community centre/hall will also require sigificant donations from the Twomilehouse Community, if this project is to be delivered.
Two Mile House is a great community to live in and be part of. The proposed community centre/hall will enhance that, and we can all pitch in to deliver it.

history

For many years the Parish Hall was the focal point for social interaction in the Parish of Two Mile House. The hall had only two rooms, so it was small and homely. It held many social activities from plays (TMH has a strong history of drama) to cards, dances, Christmas Bazaars, school plays, and many other memorable events.
There are great memories that are cherished by many people in our Parish; created within a community that benefitted from having a facility where moments like these could be shared and enjoyed.

For some time now that focal point within the community has been lacking. We are pleased to announce that a plan is now in place to provide a much-needed community facility. In October 2020 planning permission was granted by Kildare County Council for the phased construction of a Community Centre/School Gym. The proposal is to position the development on the site beside the school which was purchased some years ago.
