So here is the challenge....to clock up 26.2 miles in a week, every week, for a full year! As if that was'nt enought, just for good measure, i'll also climb Aconcagua (the tallest peak in South America and one of the 7 Summits of the world in January 2022 .... Covid permitting). Aconcagua is 6,960 metres/22,838 feet in Height (to put it in perspective...Everest is 8,850 metres). Previously i've climbed Killimanjaro @ 5,895 metres and Elbrus @5,642 metres to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society so climbing Aconcagua will be Major number 3. A year is a long time to commit to running 42kms a week and my plan is to run the marathon distance at least weekly and then add some walking and hiking to bump up the total distance covered also. Then to finish off the challenge with the mountain climb. As runners rarely go a full year without some kind of an injury, my plan is to do extra mileage some weeks just in case i do get an injury and they that will keep the average on track.
Taking care of a sick child is one of the most desperate and difficult things any family can undertake. Any child at any age can unfortunately require the services of an organisation like LauraLynn. LauraLynn's mission is to provide a Community of Care that delivers evidence-based, personalised services to children with palliative care needs, complex care needs and complex disabilities, while also providing family support services and a home to our residents where quality-of-life is paramount. More information here: https://www.lauralynn.ie/ .
LauraLynn is Ireland’s only Children’s Hospice providing hospice and palliative care to children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Last year, 374 children and families from every corner of Ireland availed of LauraLynn care, supports and activities.
ALL funds raised from this challenge will go towards supporting these children and their families. So dig deep if you can and throw a few quid at this very worthy cause.
All the best,
Andy
