Janis Rafferty was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May 2018. At Cork University Hospital where she had surgery under the care of Mr. Adrian O'Sullivan and his team, and later with the oncology team of Dr. Derek Power at Mercy University Hospital her care and support has been outstanding. It was her wish that in place of a formal funeral, flowers and expense, her family and friends would donate something, however modest, to the Mercy Cancer Appeal which directly funds cancer care and research in this small non-profit hospital. She died peacefully at home with her family on 25th January 2019. The fund will close on her birthday, 8th July 2020.
