The three amigos and organisers of this challenge have become known as the ‘Pink Swingers’. They are Michael Sheehan, DJ Geaney and Eoin Landers. They all work as chartered accountants in Cork based companies.
DJ's mother Nora passed away in 2011 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. Nora was a keen golfer and was heavily involved in Castleisland Golf Club. This fundraising campaign is the lads' way of remembering Nora while at the same time raising funds for a worthy charity.
The golf challenge will commence in Nora's home course of Castleisland at 5.30am on Friday, June 19 and will finish close to 9.30pm in Castlemartyr on June 20. The lads have left no stone unturned in preparation of their almost 2000 kilometre journey capturing everything on any accountants best tool – the reliable excel spreadsheet – telling me they have 22 mins per golf hole – not including food or fuel stops, or traffic delays.
They will be dressed in pink clothing supplied by Dwyer & Co, and drive a pink Renault Captur from Kearys as they race against the clock to complete the 32 golf holes in their target time of 40 hours. The Irish Examiner will help to drive awareness of their initiative through the newspaper and its digital offerings.
