Thanks for visiting my fundraising page! My name is Barry Cantwell and in October 2018 I ran the SSE Dublin City Marathon for the Alzheimer's Society of Ireland. Thanks to the support of great family, friends and my work colleagues at  Zurich, we managed to raise €11,590 for this outstanding charity.

Now it's 2022, COVID restrictions have eased and the marathons are back! But this time I'm branching out…yes, this year I have decided to run the London City Marathon on 2nd October as well as taking on the Dublin one on 30th October. And again Zurich have come on board and will match all donations raised on this page. A huge thanks to them.

The Alzheimer's Society

I am again running to raise vital funds for the Alzheimer's Society. As you may be aware, my father is one of the many sufferers of this condition, so it is a charity very close to my heart.

The Alzheimer's Society works across the country in the heart of local communities providing dementia specific services and supports and advocating for the rights and needs of all people living with dementia and their carers.

All of my extended family are currently impacted by my father's illness and whilst there was a great sense of pride in my completion of the 2018 DCM this was nothing compared to the personal satisfaction obtained from raising awareness and funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

How your money is helping people affected by dementia

From the moment someone starts worrying about their symptoms, Alzheimer's Societies can be there for them. Your support means that people don't have to face this condition alone, and that together, a better tomorrow can be built for everyone affected by dementia.

Dementia Advisers provide critical support to people throughout their experiences with dementia. For both people living with the condition and their carers, dementia can be a complex maze, but thanks to you, they can access expert support over the phone or in person.

Your donation also supports research into better ways of treating and caring for people with dementia. For families affected by dementia, your donation makes all the difference in the world.
