I am related to Fionn. He is great craic; full of mischief like most boys his age. He loves rugby, swimming, GAA and even school. He was diagnosed with Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) about 2 years ago – there is no cure. It is 100% fatal. Duchennes causes the progressive weakening and wasting of muscles, the heart and lungs. So, all the things he loves are getting more difficult to do each day.
Fionn’s dad, Michael is an OT in the National Rehabilitation Centre and his mom Meave is a teacher in a special needs school. They have given their entire careers (and personal time as volunteers to several charities) to helping children and families in special circumstances. They got married two months after James & I. They have three children. The eldest is 8, the same age as my daughter Elizabeth Ann, and the youngest is almost 4, the same as my son Robert. Fionn is their middle child.
Fionn’s mom Meave was on the Ray D’arcy show last Tuesday highlighting the condition. Perhaps you heard her; it was a powerful interview. They are such good people and the inevitable short journey they face as a family is just horrific for them.
Friends of the Fionn Brogan Trust are working hard to raise money to ensure Fionn and his family have the best level of care, comfort and support for the remainder of his life.
Lex Consultancy have posted content on our Instagram and LinkedIn company pages regarding the Fionn Brogan Trust so please follow Lex & the Trust and donate to make a difference.
