Together with the North Dublin Drug and Alcohol Task Force, SYSS established a clinical youth support worker for young people (aged 12 to 18) in Skerries and the surrounding towns. The counsellor is available two days per week to provide brief solution focused clinical sessions at no cost to the service user. Clients have presented from all across North Fingal (Skerries, Rush, Lusk and Balbriggan), and presenting issues have included: depression, anxiety, self-harm and suicidal ideation, low mood, stress etc. After commencing in September 2018, the service was operating at full capacity within two weeks and now has a growing waiting list, highlighting the need for increased services in the area.
- About the 24 Hour Static Cycle Fundraiser -
In order to meet the demand for the Skerries Youth Counselling Service, SYSS are seeking the community's support in raising funds to extend the number of service days/hours available for young people in need to see the counsellor. On the 4th of May, SYSS will set up a number of static bikes for 24 hours in Floraville Garden, Skerries. We are asking members of the community to come down and take part in a sponsored cycle. Each person who would like to cycle with us for an hour will be asked to raise €40 for SYSS (sponsorship cards will be provided). For every €40 raised SYSS can provide a counselling session for a vulnerable young person in our community.
