Ireland has the fourth highest teen suicide rate out of 31 countries in the EU, with one in three young people experiencing some form of mental health difficulty in any given year. For the majority of adults living with mental health problems or mental illness, the first onset of their symptoms began when they were teenagers, and evidence shows that early intervention is critical if treatment is to have the most positive outcomes for the future life chances of those affected.  Cycle Against Suicide's  evidence-based, education backed, schools programme not only creates a caring, respectful and safe learning environment that educates secondary students in the area of mental health and well-being, but also, builds hope and resilience, and fosters a sense of belonging among students.
