Deloitte’s purpose is to make an impact that matters with our clients, our people, on the planet and in the community. Since 2013, Deloitte have partnered with Nurture Africa (NA), an Irish founded organisation based in Uganda whose goal is to support vulnerable children and families mentally and physically, who are affected by HIV/AIDS. By working with local organisations, their goal is to alleviate poverty through the provision of healthcare, education and micro-financing. We share Nurture Africa’s (NA) approach to working with the local community in Uganda: give man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. Through this project we support NA and their partner organisations in Uganda by applying our core skills and experience to empower people through education, skills development, and access to opportunity; therefore making NA and those that they are supporting to be self-sufficient and also activating our WorldClass target, impacting on 50 million lives by 2030. This project delivers support to NA through staff engagement, skills-sharing, fundraising and volunteering. Typically, the programme involves volunteers travelling to Uganda giving their time and skills on a capacity building placement supporting and enabling NA, its staff and its local partners to strengthen their systems and projects, however Covid-19 has prevented us from travelling to Uganda this year. We have pivoted our programme so that volunteers can continue to support the work of NA by working remotely alongside Nurture Africa staff providing training ranging from bookkeeping, financial advice for audits, consultancy, market research and business plans for new social enterprises.
As part of this programme, volunteers will be fundraising to support the work of Nurture Africa. Your donations go directly toward supporting the work that Nurture Africa do in Uganda. Thank you for your support.
"The partnership between Nurture Africa and Deloitte encapsulates all that is positive about skills-based and impactful volunteering. By sharply focusing upon the organisational requirements of Nurture Africa and our partners, Deloitte volunteers have increased the capacity of Community Based and Non- Governmental Organisations. This has directly benefitted upon the lives of tens of thousands of vulnerable people in Uganda. We view this project and partnership, as the single most important of our overseas volunteer programme." Kevin Murphy, Project coordinator, Nurture Africa
