The purpose of this fundraiser
To raise funds to further develop our GAA grounds and walkway.
The challenge (starts April 10th)
"Around the World in 40 Days"
We will endeavour as a group/community to take part in a virtual run/walk around the world. This route will begin at Killeroran (Ballygar); it will take in Boston, New York, Toronto, San Francisco, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Vietnam (Hanoi), Qatar, Poland (Poznan), Munich, London, and return to Killeroran. The total distance is 42,157km. It will be tracked using an appropriate app (Strava, Mapmyfitness, garmin, pacer, fitbit). When a participant does any particular walk or run, the app tracks the distance and this distance gets added to the route. Anyone visiting the page can track our progress throughout the 40 days. We would like to involve as many people as possible and there is no set distance that each person must cover. It's a team and a community event and should be enjoyable. There will be no pressure put on individuals to raise certain amounts or cover certain distances. Every little counts. Each person will have an individual page/link that they can share with friends and family in order to get donations/sponsorship towards the cause. As a token of our appreciation, each participant can avail of a participation medal by sending their details to +353879685624.
In 2009 a number of members from the GAA clubs in the parish came together with the vision to purchase land and develop modern GAA facilities. This development will provide a platform to promote Gaelic Games in our community, provide facilities for the enjoyment of these games, especially for the young, and to give our clubs, schools, and local residents something to be proud of.
Since 2010, when the initial fundraising draw was completed, we have continuously developed the facilities without over-burdening the clubs, members, or the wider community who have so generously contributed in the years that followed. Since we first established the entrance to the development in 2013, two full size pitches have been established. Extensive parking is available. An 800m walkway around the facility is in place. Large dressing room facilities are currently under construction, which we hope to have completed by the start of this summer.
Fundraising and Community
The generous contributions we have received over the last 12 years from the people and businesses of the parish and beyond has been immense, and has got us to this point, but more is needed to keep us moving forward. We will not be calling to local businesses looking for donations during these difficult times. However, this site provides a platform for anybody to contribute, no matter how large or small. All donations will be gratefully accepted. We would also like to remind and encourage people to continue to support local businesses during this time and into the future.
Within this page there are two ways that contributions can be made. Firstly, there is a 'main donations page' (www.idonate.ie/main) where people can donate to the development. Secondly, you can donate/sponsor an individual who is taking part in the challenge (all individuals are listed below). There will also be various videos and photo compilations available for you to view. These will be informative in relation to the development in the beginning. Later we will be adding lots of club and community photos for you enjoy; to take a trip down memory lane.
On behalf of St Brendan's Men's and Ladies football clubs, and Ballygar hurling club, thank you for taking the time to visit this site.
