About six months ago Clíodhna Mahon and I decided (with a bit of motivation from Andrew and Cian & some dutch courage!) to start training for the Dublin marathon. We'll be doing it for our friend Pádraig who has been making a massive effort and great progress since his accident two years ago in Cape Cod.
We did the half marathon last weekend and got some idea of how challenging the full one will be - can't believe we'll have to double that distance! Pádraig has been getting me to step out of my comfort zone since I met him though, always with a good outcome. I'd be really grateful for any kind of donation to Caring for Pádraig, which will help support Pádraig in making further progress within a system which is failing people with acquired brain injuries.
Thanks for your support and come out for a drink with us all on the day! :-)
Padraig Schaler, a 2013 TCD graduate from Glasnevin, Dublin, acquired a very severe brain injury when he was hit by a van on 27 June 2013 as he cycled to work on Cape Cod. Nobody was ever prosecuted.
He is now living with his family in Dublin. He requires 24-hour care and is fully dependent.
All proceeds go to the Caring for Padraig fund, administered by a Committee independent of the family.
