Hi all,
I have come together with three close mates to do one of the world most difficult but least known treks through the mountains and jungles of Papua New Guinea.
The Kokoda Trail is 100km long and has a combined climb of 5000 meters through tropical jungle. The accommodation is in remote village huts and tents while carrying our own pack throughout.
The Trail played a pivotal part in influencing the outcome of the Japanese occupation in Aisa during World War 2. It is where the Australian army first faced the Japanese army and held their advance towards their goal of conquering Australia.
While we are committed to doing the trek either way as a personal challenge for each of us.
We feel that in doing so, it would be an opportunity missed if we were to do this unique challenge without using it to support 2 charities which mean something to us personally.
Michael, has had personal experiences with people close to him suffering from Cystic Fibroses and has seen at first hand the work carried out by CF Ireland. Therefore, he would like to lend some support to this charity in this small way.
The second charity chosen is Aoibheann's Pink Tie. After seeing an episode of "Secret Millionaire" some years back, I was struck by the charities work and the kids and families that benefit from it. Since then, I have become aware of people I know who have availed of the charities support and in recent time are now supporting a family who are good friends of mine and who’s daughter is going through treatment currently.
All of of us who are undertaking this hike in PNG are doing so at our own expense and every cent is going to the mentioned charities. We are extremely grateful for any donation you can afford to contribute to either of our chosen charities.
