The tiniest patients are cared for in the Nazareth ward. This is one of the oldest wards in the hospital and was never designed to treat the number of patients it currently does. Whilst each and every patient receives world class care from our hero doctors and nurses, there just isn’t enough room in the tiny 1960's cubicles for parents to be with their precious children.
To make matters worse, when there is an emergency and a baby needs urgent treatment, there is no room to get life- saving equipment to a baby in their bed – the bed needs to be brought to the door. This year Crumlin Hospital aim to make a big change on Nazareth ward by upgrading 20 baby rooms, providing more space, light, comfort and equipment for our tiniest patients and their parents. Each unit will cost approximately €50,000 to complete.
Although there is a new Children’s Hospital planned, this is at least 5 years away. At least 1 million children will pass through the doors of Crumlin between now and then. Sick children cannot wait. They deserve the best right now.
