We have decided to complete the challenge for two charities very close to some of the team member’s hearts. The charities are:
Oesophageal Cancer

On the 17th January 2017, Joanne & Kim lost their dad, Robby, after he lost his short battle with Oesophageal cancer. Robby was only 55 when he passed away. Robby was diagnosed in April 2016 with Oesophageal cancer but unfortunately the tumour had gone un-noticed for some time prior to his diagnosis. About 450 cases of oesophageal cancer occur in Ireland each year. Approximately 70% of patients have oesophageal cancer symptoms for more than three months before talking to their GP. We want to change this; as early detection can be vital in saving lives.
The Friends of St. Luke’s

On the 3rd July 2015, Seamus’s sister, Sinead lost her battle with Brain Cancer. Sinead was only 39 when she passed away from an inoperable brain tumour diagnosed in 2011. According to the Irish cancer society 290 malignant primary tumours of the brain are diagnosed in Ireland every year. Sinead passed away in the loving care of the CHI Castres – Mazamet in France and the hospital also looked after her family very well in her final weeks which is why Seamus is putting forward The Friends of St. Luke’s as his chosen charity. Apart from funding some important projects The Friends continue to support Oakland Lodge a “home from home” situated in the grounds of the hospital, for patients who travel long distances for treatment. Oakland Lodge has some accommodation, which provides for a family member or friend to stay also, which is a great comfort to people during their treatment. It is a wonderful facility and has been completely funded by supporters and fundraisers.
We would really appreciate your support in helping us to raise funds for our chosen charities. To make things even more interest in our fundraising appeal, Seamus has kindly said if we can raise €10,000 (that’s €5,000 for each charity) he will let us shave off his well known moustache!
