On 9 September 2017 to raise funds for the Bumbleance service myself and friends from Lufthansa Technik, Shannon will be taking part in the Hell and Back Challenge at Kilruddery Estate, Bray, Co. Wicklow. The Bumbleance service came to the forefront as a worthy cause due to our colleague Tom Delaney. Tom’s daughter Aoibhinn was born with hydrocephalus and a number of other medical issues. She needed her first surgery at only 1 day old and also needed lifesaving open heart surgeries at 6 weeks old and was placed on life support for 6 weeks. A lot of her first year was spent in various hospitals and she has had further operations and procedures since. Among other issues Aoibhinn has also been diagnosed with scoliosis, juvenile arthritis, is PEG fed and is a wheelchair user. Aoibhinn is now almost 6 years old and because of her complex medical history she has numerous follow-up appointments with various different departments mainly in Crumlin and Temple Street hospitals. As she lives in Kilkenny the journeys to & from Dublin for appointments can be very stressful. Using the BUMBLEance Service has made a difference for Aoibhinn and the family. A Bumbleance journey makes it be possible for parents and children to relax on difficult journeys that no parent should ever have to make with a child. Please donate & help us raise as much funds as possible for a well-deserved cause.
