Helium is a charity close to my heart. It does incredible work for children living with long term illness and their families. The workshops they create and deliver bring light to long days in hospital and help children feel like children. One of the wonderful artists involved once told me that a children she worked with explained to her that the one major thing that stood out to them about their Helium project time was the minutes of normality the exercise brought them. Minutes. Not hours, not days, not weeks. Normality was so elusive they counted it in minutes. As adults we take normal for granted, as healthy people we take normal for granted. As teenagers it was the normality that gave us the roots to grow and manage the chaos of hormones and drama. For heroic children and teenagers juggling coping with illness and growing up, normality is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Helium is aptly named, they lift children and young adults out of the stifling hospital routine to explore all the colours of the rainbow and find the pot of gold that is taking the wonderful, exciting and progressive steps into adulthood. This is why I am taking part in this run to raise these funds. If you can, I would be tremendously grateful if you could donate.Thank you!!
The best of luck in the Colour Run, Sheelah, you'll do great! Happy to support a worthy cause, enjoy!
