I have worked with the Anne Sullivan Centre and Foundation for over 12 years. The Anne Sullivan Centre and Foundation supports people who are deafblind through providing residential, day, respite, outreach, training, advocacy and information services. While our residential/day/respite services are funded by the HSE, our advocacy and outreach services are not. There are approx 1700 people in Ireland (adults and children) who have severe hearing and vision impairments and thousands more with some degree of hearing and vision impairment. The Anne Sullivan Centre is the only service provider in Ireland that provides specialist outreach and advocacy supports to individuals who are deafblind however the services are limited; more resources are needed in order to provide better supports to individuals and families.

The Foundation has a specially constructed centre in the grounds of St. Joseph’
