I have no doubt that I have told many of you about my Adventure to Vietnam in March 2017 as part of Operation Walk Ireland. However in case I haven't......
This is a Mission to bring a full hospital Orthopaedic Team to Vietnam, to perform hip and knee replacement on those who cannot avail. This year 62 staff travelled to Hanoi and placed 68 hip/knee replacements in 4 days operating (My unit at home performs approx 20/week).
All of those surgeries were on patients who otherwise would have no hope of medical intervention, were in severe daily pain and were incapable of walking independently.
It is a truly fantastic opportunity to use ones' skills in a way that changes the patients' life, and those of their families. Many of these patients are young and surgery gives them the opportunity to regain financial independence for their families.
All of the team volunteer their time, however the overheads involved in hospital care is not cheap.....Purchasing and shipping 2.5 tonnes of equipment to south east Asia is an expensive business!!!
With this in mind I'm asking for help with fundraising and GREATLY appreciate any donation large or small that you can offer.
many thanks in anticipation of your generosity
Mark
