James Fennelly and Dan Comerford decided in November of 2017 that they would set themselves a challange for 2018. They decided that the Quest 12/24 146km adventure race fit the bill! The furthest both of them have run is regular 5km races so they thought that a unsupported 146km adventure race across Ireland’s highest mountains and the toughest cycle routes in the South West, would be the ultimate way to test their physical and mental toughness to overcome everything that the Wild Atlantic Way could throw at them. Everyone knows somebody effected by suicide and mental health issues and the lads wanted to raise some awarness and funds for a local charity that are active in helping those effected. They choose The Thomas Hayes Trust. The aim of the Thomas Hayes Trust is to provide support to individuals and families/friends who are affected by loss, through suicide, or those considering suicide and to contribute to the prevention of suicide in the community. They undertake this objective through the provision of free counselling, education, a drop in support service in the Teac Tom Centre, and a public awareness campaign to promote positive mental health.
James and Dan aim to raise €5,000 in support of Teac Tom and all donations will go directly to this trust. They will be keeping everyone updated on their training on a weekly basis on the lead up to this event through the Fennelly Fitness social media pages so follow their journey to the race there! All donations big or small are appreciated!
