My Story:
Finding out you are pregnant with your second child is an amazing feeling. Having suffered early miscarriages in the past the first few weeks of pregnancy for me is always scary. Hoping and praying all will be OK.
So, once I was past the 7/8 week mark I stopped worrying and started excitedly planning for the pregnancy, birth and beyond.
Having had a healthy and happy first pregnancy I was kind of naive about what could happen and never thought anything would be wrong.
Because of previous Miscarriages I had early scans, and all seemed OK, except there was a 2nd sac so we was told it was possibly a twin that didn’t develop but our baby growing was OK.
So, we went to our 12 week scan very excited with no worries at all.
Then our world fell apart.
I will never forget the look on the sonographers face. Her words were ' I think your little baby is poorly' she is measuring a few weeks too small and there appears to be too much fluid on the brain.
A consultant wasn’t free to see us so we had the painful overnight wait to get a consultant’s opinion.
We saw a consultant the next morning and she couldn't make any diagnosis as it was too early. We had to wait till 15 weeks when the brain would be fully developed.
We spent the next few weeks in a daze, hoping and praying all was OK.
But then as scan in the UK crashed our hopes and our world. Our beautiful little girls brain had not formed properly and with a diagnosis of Holoprosencephaly we were told she would not survive the pregnancy and with such a fatal abnormality she would develop other complications.
4 days later her little heart stopped. Being told your baby has no heart beat is something I will never ever forget.
I delivered her the next day and the hospital arranged a funeral.
A Little Lifetime:
It was then that I found the amazing support from A Little Lifetime. A charity that supports parents that have lost a child in pregnancy and after birth.
The months after losing my little Angel they were such a valuable support network with one on one counselling, private Facebook groups for parents to chat about their experiences and support each other, workshop where you can create beautiful memorials for your baby and a fantastic team of volunteers providing support day and night.
I would not have got through this without their support.
VHI Mini Marathon:
A Little Lifetime relies completely on donations and fundraising. Therefore, I want to take part in the Mini Marathon and raise as much funds as possible for such a fantastic charity.
My friends and colleagues Jenny Sweeney and Eithne Flynn and Jenny's mum, Shelia are proudly taking part in the marathon to raise funds for A Little Lifetime also.
Please kindly sponsor the 4 of us as we aim to complete the 10K Mini Marathon.
Thank you in advance for your much-needed support.
