Hello Everybody,
I am running my first marathon, Cork City Marathon on June 3rd 2018, to raise funds for two very worthy causes which are the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association (IMNDA) and Research Motor Neuron Disease (RMN).
My father, Manus McColgan, passed away late last year after a number of years battling against Motor Neuron Disease. My father ran Cork City Marathon a number of times so this seemed like an apt challenge to fundraise against with the aim to complete my first marathon and in doing so hopefully beat his best time for a family PB.
Motor neuron disease (MND) is a presently incurable neurodegenerative disorder. Anyone familiar with this terminal illness will be aware of how debilitating this disease is and the impact it has on the affected person and their carer(s).
I am raising money for IMNDA as they provided great support and to my father, and my mother and brother who acted as my father's carers. My father was able to stay at home until he passed and without help from the IMNDA this would likely not have been possible. I am sure the full time at home care my father received helped prolong his life and maintain it to the highest quality possible while fighting his degenerative condition.
I am also raising money for Research Motor Neuron who promoting and facilitate research into the causes and treatments of motor neuron disease (MND), also known as ALS. Ongoing research is needed to discover the cause, treatment and methods of improving quality of life for MND sufferers and their families.
All online donations are split 50/50 between the charities. All offline donations, which I will personally collect or coordinate, will be direct to IMNDA and this will be advised to any person before donating offline (outside this page).
Your support would be greatly appreciated.
