Now that I have committed, I’m really looking forward to finishing a triathlon after talking about it for 10 years!!! I did two sprint triathlon years ago & despite staying active with a bit of running, cycling, swimming & Pilates, I haven’t managed to put all aspects together to make it over a triathlon finishing line.
Training with the KOG10 Team for a great cause: The Gavin Glynn Foundation, will ensure I get there because I need the goal to be greater than me. A shared experience & the shared achievement of all of us making the end line will be so much sweeter. Not to mention the good craic I’m anticipating will be had along the way.
Bring on the training Alex!!! I don’t know if I’m ready, but I am willing.

TRAINING UPDATE:
It’s 5 weeks to the KOG & training has gone up a gear this weekend. The support & motivation of the KOG team is phenomenal. I am so enjoying the shared enjoyment of the preparation.
Ive been doing twice weekly gym sessions with the #KOG20 crew & Alex Gray our coach, with a few cycles, runs & swims. All was going tickadee boom when I broke my toe (June 7th), 4 days before completing the Wicklow 100 cycle. I was thrilled to do it, let’s say it was character building!!
This week has been a good swim week. I competed in an Aquathon relay with another KOG team member, Declan. I did the 750m sea swim & Declan did the run. That was good fun & a wake up call for the real thing!! Building on that I did a long lake swim on Saturday (900m+) & the same distance in the sea today, after a 20km bike.
I’m keeping my bike sessions up & when they are short I’m trying to increase my speed. From July I will cycle to work a few days per week.
I must admit that I am worried about my run training. It’s my weakest event but hopefully the toe will recover by the beginning of July. Until then I’ll stay focused on the swim & bike.
Keep up the donations to
thegavinglynnfoundation.ie We all need as much support as we can garner. Surely a broken toe is worth a few bob????
I will update again in a few weeks.
