Hello!
So, it’s fair to say I have never shown a particular flair for running or racing or mobility. Sure, I have been a mesmerizingly mediocre soccer player in 5 minute bursts, and yes, I have long been a technically flawless runner, but only in the sense that if you do no running, technically you can’t have any flaws. This year, all that changes. This year, I’m taking part in the Calcutta Run.
The Calcutta Run is the legal profession’s big annual fundraiser. Lawyers, presumably fit from chasing ambulances all day, take part in either a 5km or 10km run (I’m doing the 5km run because I’m built more like Ronnie O’Sullivan than Sonia O’Sullivan). This year the event is in aid of two worthy charities: The Peter McVerry Trust and The Hope Foundation.
I’ve been training hard for the last few weeks - going for runs in Blackrock Park, terrorizing young families by collapsing near playrounds, angering the otherwise languid swans of South Dublin by kicking unsuspecting cygnets that foolishly waddled into my path. It’s been going well.
Any donation at all would be a huge help. I made the mistake of letting people in the office know that I’ve been training for this, so there’s no backing out now!
