Lola is 4 years old and has autism. Simple activities like shopping or going to the park can lead to sensory overload which results in either Lola running off or falling to the floor in a meltdown, similar to that of a two year old. This is very difficult not only for her family, but also for Lola as people stop, stare and can judge. A service dog will have a calming effect during meltdowns and also keep her safe as she has no sense of danger, often walking out in front of cars.
My canine companion is a fantastic charity that trains dogs to assist children living with autism. The cost of training a service dog is in excess of €10,000.
So we are asking for your help. Help us to give not only our daughter, but our entire family a better quality of life. This dog would not only help us to keep Lola safe, but it would help to lower her anxiety in everyday simple social situations.
This dog will be Lola's anchor, and her new best friend.
As a family we cannot thank people enough for their kindess and support in helping our little Lola!
