I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 and treated in early 2015.
I made contact with East Galway and midlands cancer support group during my treatment .They are a voluntary body totally dependant on public subscriptions and they provide an invaluable support service to those diagnosed with cancer and also to their families.
Through them I was introduced to a fitness program which brought me from being a couch potato to being a marathon runner (a slow one !!)
The concept of the program is help prevent a repeat of the cancer .
East Galway and Midlands cancer support work very closely with the Marie Keating foundation and I was glad to participate in the Marie Keating Foundation Heros of hope campaign last year which tries to encourage men to talk about their health and in particular prostate cancer.
East Galway and midlands cancer support centre provides support to all cancer patients and do not charge a single cent for this service.
I hope in a small way to give my thanks to all those involved in the the centre and try to ensure that the hope help and encouragemnt I found there will be continued for the next person who needs it .
