I will be running the Dublin Marathon this year for Lola Reilly. She is a 4 years old and has autism. Simple tasks like going shopping or to the park can lead to sensory overload which results in Lola running away or falling to the floor having a meltdown similar to that of a two year old. This is not only difficult for the family but for Lola herself as people stop, stare and sometimes comment which can be very upsetting. We're fundraising for Lola to get an Autism Service Dog which will have a calming effect on her during these meltdowns and can sometimes help prevent them. It will also keep her safe as she has no sense of danger, often walking out in front of cars, etc. My canine companion is a fantastic charity that trains dogs to assist children with autism. It's costs in excess of €10,000 to train each dog.
This dog will be Lola's anchor and new best friend. It will make not only her life; but the whole family's lives much easier.
