Our little boy Ben is seven years old and has ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder).  Our family are trying to raise money to assist My Canine Companion in providing Ben with a service dog. Service dogs make a dramatic difference in the quality of life for children with Autism and their families.

Life can be stressful for Ben. He finds change, new environments, transitions and outings difficult.  A service dog for Ben would also help him with sensory needs, stop him from bolting in public places and calm him when he has meltdowns, gets too hyper or when stressed. The dog will also give Ben confidence in so...

On 16th March, I held a fundraising coffee morning at Maynooth Works with the help of the Beauty Buddy. I shared with the group the benefits of having a service dog for a child that has autism. We got a huge amount of support and raised E790.

We got the surprise call from My Canine Companion yesterday morning to say that we were getting our dog that day! She arrived last night from Cork and Ben and Lily got to meet her this morning - it was like Christmas morning. She is from the E litter and her name is Erika. She has been puppy raised by a volunteer family and is 1 year old. We couldn't be more happy. She big but has an even bigger heart. We look forward to hear settling in to her new family.

Kilcloon Parish raise money for a My Canine Companion Service Dog The community spirit and generosity are high at Kilcloon Parish, located outside Maynooth. Members of the Kilcloon community recently pulled together to raise money for a worthwhile charity, My Canine Companion, which in turn helped in the fundraising effort giving a local boy that has autism a service dog. My Canine Companion’s service dog, Erika (pictured) will be the boy’s constant companion and will help him reach his full potential in life. Delia Heneghan, from Kilcloon, has handmade St. Brigit’s crosses for many years to raise money for local charities. The beneficiary this year, My Canine Companion, provides training for companion dogs for children that have autism. The local boy’s family are currently fundraising €10,000 which is the cost of training a service dog over 2 years. The St. Brigit Crosses were sold outside Kilcloon Church by Michael Fahy who works at Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa, Kilcloon Primary School, where the boy goes to school. St. Brigid’s Day is the 1st of February and officially marks the start the pagan festival of spring. Members of the parish kindly supported the cause and raised €850.00
