I am a Transition Year Student with the Dominican College Galway. I am participating in the School Immersion Programme and will be going to Kolkata on the 22nd of March 2019 to volunteer in the outreach programmes established by the HOPE Foundation in 1999. HOPE provides permanent and sustainable pathways out of poverty through the delivery of education, healthcare, protection, nutrition and income generationin. Hope works with Kolkatas forgotten children, those who have been victims of trafficking, violence, abadonment, prostitution, sexual abuse and severe neglect. Despite India's growing economy millions of people are forced into a life of severe and often fatal poverty. In kolkata the poor population are unable to secure their most basic human rights, those, which we often take for granted in the Western world.
