I'm taking part in the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday 3rd March 2019. My first marathon was Chicago in 2015 and that set me on the path of completing the 6 World Majors. London and New York followed in 2016, then Boston and Berlin in 2017. I signed up for Tokyo 2018 but unfortunately I didn't make it. My darling Dad became unwell with heart failure in November 2017 and had to spend many weeks in hospital. Despite the very best efforts of all involved in his care he wasn't getting better and in January 2018 he made the brave decision to stop treatment and return home for his final days. In the end, the most important thing to him was that he was back on the farm where he spent his whole life, comfortable and surrounded by all who loved him. This was made possible by the palliative care teams at the Mater Hospital and the Offaly Hospice and as a family we will always be grateful for their kindness and support.

I ran the first 5 marathons for myself but I will be running Tokyo for Dad and it's for this reason I've chosen to fundraise for The Irish Hospice Foundation.
