My Lovely Horse Rescue was established in 2011 at the height of the horse crisis in Ireland and is run entirely by unpaid volunteers determined to end the suffering of equines in Ireland. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome. They work with Gardaí, local authorities and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in moving starving, neglected, abused and abandoned equines to a place of safety. They lobby politicians and local authorities to increase compliance with legislation among land owners and horse owners. They believe that, while legislation like the Animal Health and Welfare Act broadly protects animal welfare, it does not reflect the rights of animals - the right to be free from hunger, thirst, fear, pain, loneliness - and the right to exhibit natural behaviours. They want laws to describe these rights in a prescriptive manner that is not open to interpretation. It’s their goal that better animal welfare legislation is properly enforced to protect the right of all horses to - not just life - but a life worth living.

Since then, by using fosterers, livery yards and private trainers we have taken in over 80 equines in varying states of neglect and abuse and rehabilitated, trained and re homed those who were ready.
