We were blessed with a beautiful baby girl on Monday 11th February 2019. After a full term, and healthy pregnancy, we were delighted when Grace arrived into the world weighing an amazing 8lb 3oz. The little girl we had wanted for so badly had finally arrived.
After hearing we just had a beautiful baby girl, I remember feeling the weight of her and her warm body moving and kicking on my legs. We had never been happier or more complete, our hearts burst with pride.
She was then taken into a room behind me which we presumed was to give her a quick look over and dressing her. We could not stop smiling with excitement, we were finally a family.
But after a little while I noticed she still was not coming out and my husband could see that their was a lot of doctors in there with her. We thought maybe there was something wrong with her. I remember asking my husband over and over again, is she coming? Where is Grace? Then not long after, this doctor appeared beside us and said the words I will never forgot hearing, ‘ I am so sorry’.
The happiest day of our lives had just transformed into every parents worst nightmare.
The next thing that I remember is waking up in the recovery room, still frozen with shock. A little while later, a team of specialist doctors came in to tell us exactly what had happened to Grace. Grace was struggling to breath on her own, so the team tried everything they possibly could to get her to take a breath but sadly after about 40 minutes, our beautiful daughter Grace passed away.
Grace’s life was short, but it has taught us so much. Not to take things for granted, not to assume (as we had) that every new parent gets to bring their beautiful baby home from hospital, not to make a fuss about things that don't really matter. We were so blessed with Grace, and we will never forget her; she will always be talked about and so very loved.
We cannot thank the doctors and midwifes enough at Wexford General Hospital for everything they done for the 3 of us and our families. For all their kindness and love they have shown.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Feileacain - Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Association of Ireland . All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause. Feileacain is a non profit organization formed by a group of bereaved parents for anyone affected by the loss of a baby.
Not only did they give us our 4 precious days and nights with Grace as a family ( as Feileacain supply Cuddle Cots - special Moses baskets with a cooling device built into them) , but also a memory box full of sentimental items such as pictures taken of our little girl from her chubby little cheeks, to her girly little finger and big toes to her hand print and foot prints, locks of her hair , teddies, a blanket and much more.
Any donations placed will not only go towards a memory box for families affected by the loss of their baby but also support lines, the support services, promoting research into the cause of the stillborn & neonatal deaths to help find diagnosis’ and to help prevent this desvastating loss to other expecting parents. We hope to continue to raise as much as we can to help as many hospitals throughout Ireland , to make sure each parent is supported and has beautiful memories to cherish. Along with a decorated Bereavement room for the parents to spend with their little one , followed by the support needed.
Anything we can achieve will never be enough to thank them for all they did for us. Each item in memory of our daughter Grace we will always have to cherish.
Thank you for reading.

Why the name FéileacáinA Butterfly lights besides us like a sunbeam …Many of the ancient civilizations believed that butterflies were symbols of the human soul, and in Irish mythology the butterflies, or ‘Féileacáin’, are said to be the spirits of the departed who return to visit their favorite place and their loved ones to reassure them that they are alright.
