On the 28th December 2015, Rose McNamara's (aka the Rosie from Rosie's Runner's) life changed forever, she became very ill and was later diagnosed with Myelodysplastic syndrome which is a form blood cancer.
Following many months of uncertainty Rose finally received the wonderful news that her illness could be treated by having a stem cell transplant. All her siblings were tested and as luck would have it her brother Joe was a match. On the 28th November 2016 Rose underwent the transplant at St James's Hospital Dublin in which Rose received the gift of life from her brother Joe, for which she is eternally grateful.
During Rose's time in hospital she saw first hand the great work of the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust. Rose and her Family were so inspired by the work of Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust that a group of almost 20 family and friends participated in the Great Limerick Run (6Mile) in 2018 and raised almost €5000 for the Bone Marrow for Leukaemia Trust.
Then we all caught the "running/walking bug" and decided to continue running and so the Rosie's Runner's Group was born. Since then the group meet most Sunday mornings and have even held our own Santa Dash on St. Stephen's day raising over €1000 local cancer services in University Hospital Limerick.
So Rosie's Runner's are going to partake in Great Limerick Run 2019 6Mile (10k)
