I'm taking part in Connemara100 on Saturday 8th of August 2020 .
I've chosen to fundraise for Jigsaw. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause.

From my early teens to even today, I have struggled with my own mental health. Luckily, I have always been fortunate to have access to support from my family, friends, and an understanding girlfriend!

Why Jigsaw?

Promoting mental health and having access to services, means a lot to me and my family. I found out about Jigsaw when I was 24 years of age and I am really impressed with the work they are doing for young people and their mental health. I was delighted to hear that there are Jigsaw Offices coming to my home town, Thurles, Co. Tipperary in the near future. It has taken me some time to build up the tools I use to help me deal with depression and anxiety. I think, having access to such a facility for teenagers and young adults might help people to get a handle on their own mental health at a much earlier stage in their lives. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the charity sector has been hit hard, and Jigsaw need everything they can get.

Why Ultrarunning?

There are many physical and mental health benefits of running and it has been vital for my journey in gaining control of my anxiety disorder. I had to retire from rugby from an early age due to repeated concussions. Running has given me back that drive I had for sport. It is enjoyable, testing and is a release for me. It has been a major tool that I use, and that natural release of endorphins is everything!

My journey with depression and anxiety has, at times, made me feel trapped inside my own head and physically, it has kept me from going outside of the house, but this running journey has given me the outlet to take back control.

I am a firm believer in getting out of your comfort zone to teach you about yourself and that is why I am taking on the challenge of the Connemara100.

“The comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there”
