Mom passed away in May 2021 after a short battle with cancer.  She was determined to fight this disease and underwent multiple rounds of chemo. The treatment at least in our experience was tougher than the disease. Galway Hospice Foundation became our life line.  We went from feeling completely helpless in the face of worsening side effects to a sense of agency as the home care team guided us through how best to support mom in what was to be her final journey.  We not only recieved practical direction on how to manage mom's ever changing medicine regime but we also received emotional support, compassion and encouragement. In the end, because of the support of Galway Hospice we were able to bring mom home so she could spend her final hours in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family and friends and with the dignity of a present and loving goodbye.

And so, my brother Coleman and I have decided to climb Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa in mom's memory with the intention of raising funds for Galway Hospice Foundaton. Joining us on this adventure are our hiking buddies, Viv, Máirtín Óg and Ailish.
