On August 8th just before 2pm I started my swim to France from Samphire Hoe, in an event unprecedented in Channel Swimming history my swim had to be aborted on safety grounds roughly 150 metres from the shore at Wissant Beach in France at circa 4am.

I was given a second chance and on October 9th, I again set off from Dover and this time after 15 hours 26 minutes I reached France, to become the first person from Clare and the 15th Irish woman to do so.

Between August 8th and 16th I will attempt to swim the English Channel, fulfilling a lifelong ambition.

Guided by a pilot boat wearing just a swim suit, cap and goggles, I will swim from Dover to the French coast (the distance as the crow flies is 21 miles, but with traffic, weather and tides it is most likely to be significantly longer).

If successful I will become the first person from Co. Clare to achieve this feat, often referred to as ‘the Everest of Open Water Swimming’.
