In 2022, we will be climbing 12 of the highest peaks in Ireland in order to raise money for the Offaly Hospice Foundation to help towards building a Specialist Palliative Care Unit.

In 2022 I have committed to climbing 12 of the highest peaks in Ireland in order to raise money for the Offaly Hospice Foundation. For an experienced hiker this may seem like a walk in the park, unfortunately I am not one of them.  As an amateur hiker, my close friend Karen Ravenhill has kindly decided to support me throughout this endeavour. Together we plan to raise as much funding as possible for the building of a much needed palliative in-patient unit for the midlands.  Palliative Care aims to improve the quality of life for patients and families who face a life-threatening illness such as cancer by providing pain and symptom relief, with spiritual and psychosocial support from diagnosis to end of life and bereavement.

The 2001 report of the National Advisory Committee on Palliative Care in Ireland set out the clinical and strategic importance of a Specialist Palliative Care in-Patient Unit. The report stated that every region in Ireland should have a Specialist Palliative Care In-Patient Unit yet twenty one years later the Midlands remains the only region in the country without one. The Midlands Hospice Building Fund was launched in 2019, which aims to raise enough money to fund the building of a Specialist Palliative Care Unit serving Offaly and its surrounding counties. The cost of building this unit is currently estimated at an excess of 10 million Euros.

The work of Offaly Hospice Foundation relies heavily on the goodwill and generosity of the people. Huge progress has already been made in this project, every little bit will help towards their goal. All funds raised here will go directly to this great cause. I hope you can help us by donating whatever you can, whenever you can, over the next year.   Simply click the Donate link. All donations are processed securely.

Should you not be in a position to donate, why not join us on a hike or share the journey to raise much needed awareness.
