The Calcutta Run, organized by The Law Society of Ireland is an annual 10k which raises money for two separate charities.
The first of these is the Irish NGO GOAL whose work in Calcutta quite literally takes children off the streets and helps provide education and healthcare.
The 2nd charity is a lot closer to home, and if I'm honest- a lot closer to my heart. The Peter McVerry Trust works to help the homeless here in Dublin and elsewhere in Ireland. Among the services the trust provides are temporary accomodation, supported housing and methadone detoxing treatment.
All proceeds raised go directly to supporting those experiencing homelessness in Ireland and Kolkata through Dublin Simon Community and The Hope Foundation.
