So on the 22nd of February at 6:05 AM I completed my summit of mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. The highest free standing mountain in the world. One of the hardest challenges I have ever tackled. Starting at 12PM the night before at Barafu Camp (4673M) our group climbed to the roof of Africa and to Uhuru Peak (5895M). Starting in the dark with just a head lamp to see 3-4 feet in front on you, each step bringing you closer and closer to the top but without seeing the top. One step at a time and only concentrating on the 3-4 feet in front of you until eventually making it to the top. It was a huge mental test from start to finish, but summit night was a different challenge altogether. I would like to thank everyone for the support and the donations to Pieta House so far. The donation page is still open until the end of March so please share the page and donate.
I've been looking to challenge myself by climbing the highest free standing mountain in Africa. It has been on my "bucket list" for a long time. At the same time it would be a good idea to raise money for a very worthy charity called Pieta House.
Being someone who has lost a lot of friends and family through suicide, it is a charity which deals with an ever growing issue these days and one that is very close to me. What a lot of people don't know about depression, anxiety and suicide is that it can be impossible to tell if someone is going through it, and it could be the happiest person you know that could not be doing ok. But it is very OK not to be OK.
