Ken Carty, brother-in-law of Private Martin Fallon, is taking part in the Warrior's Run, Strandhill on the 25th of August 2018 in aid of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
Martin was diagnosed with cancer in June 2017 and despite a heroic warrior's battle he passed away in the Insular Hospital, Las Palmas, Puerto Rico on October 12th 2017. The Kevin Bell Trust was instrumental in the coordination of bringing Martin home to Athlone where Martin served in the army for 37 years. Losing a loved one at any stage in life is always hard on a family but this is particularly true in the circumstances where a family member dies in a foreign country. Martin's wife, Breeda, and the Fallon family will always remember, with gratitude, not just the financial aid but the on-the-ground support that the Trust provided as well, in the immediate aftermath and following days and weeks after Martin's death. Liasing with the hospital, dealing with the language barrier and the administration, the undertakers back home, and the family both in Ireland and Puerto Rico were taken care of by the Trust, while the family were dealing with the pain and the loss of Martin's death.
Martin loved life, gatherings with family and friends he loved the most. He loved the craic, music, his pint, and phoning home about Sligo Rovers. Martin was a very kind man, and always gave to a good cause, and would be very quick to tell you "They're chancers, I'd give them nothing, put your money away". He would be the first one to vouch for this Trust.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. At the completion of the Warrior's Run, we'll hear Moppy's refrain: "Another job done".
